Though playing the lottery is a game of chance, that doesn’t mean you can’t have a method for choosing your lottery numbers. Of course, there's no perfect method for choosing winning lottery numbers, but there are several ways that you can do it. You can take a scientific or mathematical approach, gamble and choose randomly, follow your gut. Experiment with a few different ways. You never know. You might get lucky.

(1) Choosing Frequently Picked Numbers
Look up the frequency chart for previous lottery draws. Most state lottery programs offer charts showing how often each number has been drawn during a given time frame. For instance, it shows how often the number 1 was chosen as a Powerball number between 1997 and 2015.
If you can look up the all-time frequencies, that's the best possible data set for you to analyze. It’s more comprehensive, and you should base your numbers on as large a time frame as possible.
There's no clear way to know if you should be looking up frequent winning numbers or numbers that come up less frequently. Look up both types of numbers and play sequences with a combo of both if you wish.
However, winning numbers that come up more frequently are likely to remain frequent winners. If you play a number that doesn't come up as frequently, then you simply may need to wait a while to see if it comes up when its "due" to win.
Make sure you're looking up the right frequency chart for the lottery game you plan to play. For instance, Powerball stats will differ from Mega Millions stats.

(2) Choose your numbers based on the frequency chart.
Review the numbers that are the most frequently chosen and the least frequently chosen. Review the odds for those as well as the numbers in between. After you've looked over the odds, you have two options:
Select numbers that are drawn frequently. If you notice that a few numbers stand out for being drawn significantly more often than the others, consider including them in your pick. Be aware, though, that several other people will be trying this tactic; if you win with frequently picked numbers, you might be at a greater risk of having to share the prize with other winners.
Select numbers that are drawn less frequently. Choosing numbers that aren't picked very often might seem counterintuitive, but consider this: If everyone else is busy picking frequently drawn numbers and you win with your “long-shot” picks, you might not have to share the prize with as many other winners.

(3) Acknowledge that each number still has an equal chance of being drawn.
Looking at frequency charts might show you which numbers tend to be drawn, but keep in mind that when the actual lottery drawing comes around, each number still has an absolutely equal chance of being picked. It’s all in the luck of the draw.
Choose numbers you consider lucky. Some folks have a lucky number they use for everything. It isn't connected a birthday or anything like that, they just like the number. If this is the case for you, add your lucky number to your lottery number. You never know. You might get lucky!
If you're playing a lottery game such as Powerball, consider making your lucky number the Powerball pick.
Also if you’re lucky numbers are 7 and 11 lucky, keep in mind that those are really common lottery picks. If you win with these numbers on your ticket, you might end up sharing the prize with a lot of people.

MTN pays N1.85m to subscriber over promo fraud

Following an order issued last week by the Consumer Protection Council directing MTN Nigeria Communications Limited to, within 14 days, pay a complainant, Mr. Omeje Fidelis N1.85m being the balance of his winning in the promotion held in 2012, the telecommunication giant has effected the payment to the aggrieved consumer.
The CPC said in a statement issued on Wednesday that MTN, in compliance with the order, raised a United Bank of Africa’s draft in the said sum in favour of the complainant on February 11, 2016.
The statement stated that Fidelis, in a telephone conversation, confirmed to the CPC his receipt of the amount, disclosing that he received the cheque for the balance of his N2m prize on Monday, February 15, 2016.
It said, “CPC is also in receipt of a settlement agreement made to that effect between Omeje, MTN and its event manager for the Ultimate Wonder Promo prize presentation, Towncriers Limited, authorising the event manager to issue a bank draft in the sum of N1.85m in full and final satisfaction of the CPC’s Order and all claims to the complainant.”
Reacting to the development, CPC’s Director General, Mrs. Dupe Atoki, while welcoming the prompt compliance by MTN, said this underscores the supremacy of the consumer in the market-place.
She urged businesses to exhibit best practices that will engender value for money for consumers.
The CPC had last week Wednesday directed MTN Communications Limited to pay within 14 days the sum of N1.85m to one of the winners of its Ultimate Wonder Promo for lack of due diligence.
Fidelis had claimed that he had been underpaid after he was declared winner of N2m in the said sales promotion, which was held in 2012.
According to him, he participated in the promo and was called through MTN line 180 on October 10, 2012 that he had won N2m in the Ultimate Wonder Promo and that on October 12 of the same year he got a text message informing him of the presentation ceremony fixed for October 19 at the Nicon Luxury Hotel, Abuja.
The complainant had claimed that during the said ceremony, he was presented with a dummy cheque of N2m with his name on it, interviewed and paraded before the media and the world as a winner of the said amount.
He recounted further that he was stunned to receive another call from MTN line 180 on November 2, 2012 that his winning was N150,000 and was thereafter given a Verve ATM card for that amount.
MTN, in its response to the Council’s intervention, denied the claim of Omeje, saying that he was from the on-set informed that his winning was N150,000 and that the complainant deceitfully presented himself when winners in the N2m category were called forward on the day of the prize presentation.
The company had stated further that Omeje’s antics was discovered at the verification of winners, which was done after the ceremony and he was thereafter contacted through its 180 line on his misrepresentation pursuant to which he apologised.
As a result of the development, the CPC in a statement said it demanded for the call data of the communications of the 10th of October 2012 when Omeje was informed of his winnings of N150,000, but MTN failed.
The statement signed by the CPC Spokesman, Mr Abiodun Obimuyiwa revealed that the company refused and neglected to comply with the request made both in 2012 and 2016.
It said, “The CPC, in its Orders, frowned at the consistent refusal of MTN to provide the call data records evidencing details of communication with the complainant, declaring that in the absence of this material evidence which is solely in the possession of the respondent the CPC must resolve the issue in favour of the complainant.”
“The process of the MTN Ultimate Wonder Promotion whereby the verification exercise was conducted after winners were identified, declared and winnings presented publicly is grossly flawed, lacking in transparency, inequitable and apparently calculated to deceive consumers.”
“The CPC, on the strength of these observations, therefore directed MTN to pay within 14 days of receipt of Order, the sum of N1,850,000 being the unpaid part of the N2m prize won by the complainant in the 2012 MTN Ultimate Wonder Promotion”.

A word of advice.

The lottery can be very annoying sometimes, you play and you ain't even got a clue what's gonna come out of it and "boom" once more your money is gone and you see the numbers and you wonder "if only it had occurred to me to play number 42 or number 78 or whatever numbers you see as the result. If this is you, then you shouldn't bother playing the lottery anymore or play once in a blue moon, when you have a lot of money and you can throw some away because the lottery is won 'usually' by persistence and by people who see the money they have spent in playing as a fee to play the game. CPC has directed MTN Communications Limited to pay 1.85 million Naira to one of the winners of its Ultimate Wonder Promo for lack of due diligence.

(Reuters) - Luck wasn't on the side of a Texas man who ventured out to buy a lottery ticket in January 2016.
The 67-year-old Fort Worth man was walking to a store in his neighborhood on Monday, in hopes of winning the just concluded $1.5-billion Powerball jackpot, when he fell through a deep hole at a construction site, landing in water at the bottom, the Fort Worth Police officers noticed the construction hole and found the man at the bottom of the 7-foot (2-m) opening, police said. Officers were able to climb into the hole and give the man aid before pulling him to the surface, police said. His identity was not released."Because of the quick thinking and dedication the officers exhibited, this man and his family can say they truly won the biggest lottery of all!" the department said on Facebook.

$1M LOTTERY TICKET SOLD IN STREAMWOOD STILL UNCLAIMED, OFFICIALS SAY

Illinois Lottery officials are searching for the winner of an unclaimed $1 million Mega Millions Quick Pick ticket sold in suburban Streamwood.
The winning numbers, which were drawn Feb. 24, 2015, were 15 - 23 - 26 - 45 - 66 - (04) . The ticket was purchased at Bucky's Express at 2 South Sutton Road, officials said. Winners have one year from the date of the drawing to claim the prize - so the deadline for this winner to come forward is drawing near.
Winners are encouraged to immediately sign the back of their ticket and keep it in a safe place until they visit one of the Illinois Lottery's five prize centers. The centers are located in Chicago, Des Plaines, Rockford, Springfield and Fairview Heights.
